The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 was built during the Cold War with a simple mission: win dogfights.
No fancy computers.
No glass cockpits.
And definitely no cup holders.
What it did have was strong Soviet engineering, tight turning performance, and very large cannons. The MiG-17 earned a reputation as a dangerous close-in fighter and even challenged more advanced Western jets during the Vietnam War.
In this walk-around video we take a closer look at this Cold War legend — from the nose intake and gun layout to the wing design and engine that powered one of the most capable dogfighters of its era.
Today, instead of chasing NATO fighters across the sky, this MiG-17 flies airshows with Jason Somes from @Highalphaairshows, giving audiences a chance to see and hear one of the most iconic Soviet fighters ever built.
Because sometimes the design philosophy was simple:
All cannon. No comfort.
